Church Online Forum Set Up

Using some of my "vacation" time, between the cryings of Caleb and my snorings, I finally set up the forum page for our church. It is www.valleychinese.org/forum.

Mom is a blessing

Mom is staying with us these daya, taking care of all three of us. She arrived after Caleb was born but it actually allows her to maximize her time with us after Daisy's birth.

She is taking care of our daily meals as well as giving us advices on how to nurse Caleb. We cannot thank God enough for her being here. My family in HK spent time and money in making her trip possible and we are grateful too.

Mom is a soccer fans. These days, the Hispanic TV channel serves her needs of watching FIFA very well (I don't have cable). I am amazed how well she recognizes the players (mind you, she doesn't know English or Spanish), their names, which professional teams they are serving, etc. Her favorite teams are France, English, and Brazil. Michael would have good chats with her on the England players!

Also, I took a picture of her with the beautiful sunset one afternoon.

Caleb is two weeks old

I can't imagine the marathon has already been two weeks since his birth!

He has gained weight, that's good.

Been shot at many times while changing diapers... He can shoot far!

Yesterday tried his first bath. Not very successful. All three of us struggled (in different roles) but we will do better next time. Below is the aftermath of the battlefield.

Why we picked the name Caleb

There was a question why we picked the name Caleb. Caleb in the Old Testament was one of the twelves spies sent to survey Caanan before they conquested the Promised Land. Caleb and Joshua were the only two who gave positive reports based on their faith in God. (Numbers 13:17-14:10)

Our Caleb was also a spy to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey because he went with us to the Holy Land trip (in Daisy's womb, of course) in Christmas '05, hence his name. The timing of Daisy's pregnancy and the trip was just right so that Caleb was stable enough to travel with Daisy and still not making mom tired easily. Every time we talked about that, we praise God for His perfect timing. Our prayers is that our Caleb will be faithful and mighty for the Lord, just as the Caleb for whom he is named.

"But My servant Caleb, because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it." Numbers 14:24 NASB (see also Numbers 32:11-12; Deuteronomy 1:36; Joshua 14:9, 14)

Regarding his Chinese name, it is 蘇基立. We hope that it will remind him to 靠著基督站立得穩. (Gal 5:1, Phil 4:1)

The translation 基立 works great for my mom, who is here to help out, because 基立 pronounces almost the same as the English name Caleb.

Father's Day

Today is the Father's Day. My first. Reflecting on the new fatherhood since the birth of Caleb, I am thankful for it would have been worse 10 days ago. It would have been mournings instead of trumpets. All in all, God is faithful in all these.

As I said all along, I am not ready for fatherhood. However, I have to be a father first to learn to be one! I need to improve on patience. When the baby cries, he doesn't care you are the President of U.S.A. or Michael Jordon. You just need to work with him and take care of him.

Then I realized our Heavenly Father is even more patient on me. Time after time I made Him angry but He still loves me. Praise the Lord!

Here concludes my capricious thought on the Father's Day.

It's a boy!

All praises to God! Caleb was born on June 7th, 2006. This beautiful life arrived not without trial and tribulation but as John 16:21, these sufferings are no longer remembered.

Immanuel,
Diaper King.
