Fellowship Group Study

Our fellowship have started our group study based on John Piper's "Blazing Center" course. I like it. We came across the quotation of C.S. Lewis during the discussion (John was so good to quote it almost verbatim!) as follow:

"Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak.
We are half-hearted creatures,
fooling about with drink and sex and ambition
when infinite joy is offered us,
like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum
because he cannot imagine what is meant
by the offer of a holiday at the sea.
We are far too easily pleased."

Piper is one of the few writers that got me think. I didn't like his idea of Christian Hedonist when I was introduced to his book "Desiring God" four years ago in the seminary (that was my first class). Soon I have changed to like him and read his other books. Granted, I am still wrestling with his reformed theology, but the idea of glorifying God by enjoying Him is a right on for me.

This is another food for thought in his book Don't Waste Your Life, P. 45.

A Tragedy in the Making
You may not be sure that you want your life to make a difference. Maybe you don't care very much whether you make a lasting difference for the sake of something great. You just want people to like you. If people would just like being around you, you'd be satisfied. Or if you could just have a good job with a good wife, or husband, and a couple of good kids and a nice car and long weekends and a few good friends, a fun retirement, and a quick and easy death, and no hell-if you could have all that (even without God)-you would be satisfied. That is a tragedy in the making. A wasted life.

Don't waste your life!
